棕刚玉是以优质铝矾土、无烟煤、铁屑为主要原料在电弧炉内经2200℃高温精炼而成。棕刚玉具有化学稳定性强、硬度高、韧性强、磨削力强、耐高温、耐腐蚀、耐冲刷、流动性强、线膨胀系数低等特点。
棕刚玉被称为工业的牙齿，主要用于定型和不定型耐火材料、砂轮、切割片、精密铸造、铸造涂料、砂布、砂带、油石、磨头、喷砂除锈、抛光、耐磨地坪、水力切割、研磨、功能性填料等行业。
按冶炼方式可分为：倾倒炉和固定炉。
按破碎方式可分为：巴马克砂、对辊砂、球磨整形砂。
